Suggested Databases

What Do You Need to Create a Citation for a Database?

To create a citation for a database, you will need:

  • The Author's Name
Look at the top or bottom of the article (some articles won't list an author -- that's OK for an encyclopedia)
  • The Article's Title
Look at the top of the article
  • The Title of the Publication
Look at the top or the side of the article
  • The Name of the Publisher
Look at the top or side of the article
  • The Date of Publication
Look at the top or side of the article
  • The Name of the Database
Look at the top or bottom of the page (do not include if it's the same as the Title of Publication)
  • The URL
Copy & paste from the browser bar
  • The Date You Found It
    Look at a calendar :)

How Do You Format a Citation for a Database?

Your information should appear in this order:

Author’s Name (if you can find one). “Article Title.” Title of Publication, Name of Publisher, Date of Publication. Name of Database (unless the same as the Title of Publication), URL. Your Date of Access.

Example:

Spicer, Dag. "Lovelace, Ada." World Book Student, World Book, 2017, www.worldbookonline.com/student/article?id=ar738619. Accessed September 1, 2017.
